My spiritual quest began years ago and I have studied many different modalities. I became very confused about the best way to navigate this life and looked for an explanation of how things worked. In my quest I discovered that there are three basic approaches and in the process I learned more about who we really are.

  1. Perhaps you are like me and have studied the art of meditation. This discipline convinced me that all answers can be found within the spiritual aspect of ourselves. I was taught to go within and find my God-self where all things are possible and where I could command my reality.
  2. But then another popular modality said we create through the Law of Attraction and so rather than meditation one should focus on positive thinking and affirmations. This approach put all the emphasis on how you perceived the events in your life and promised you could change your life by changing your thoughts.
  3. Still another discipline suggested that all this New Age stuff was airy-fairy. You have to get real in life with down-to-earth action and goal setting. If there are emotional issues or addictions, get help or talk it out with a therapist or coach.

I must admit, I saw the validity of each approach even though they were very different in theory. So which one really works?

The answer is; they all do. My Higher Guidance explained to me that our character-self is really made up of three different perspectives and each perspective responds to a different discipline.

Creation is a Trinity

"Look for the trinity!" my Guidance said when attempting to explain the manifestation of our reality.  You may recall in previous CM Journal Pages we were introduced to the foundational (or primordial) trinity of Source, Spirit and Will.

The Primordial Trinity is Source, Spirit and Will

It was through this primordial trinity that the gift of being God and a Creator was given. From this foundational trinity all other trinities are manifested. Look around you and become aware of all the trinities in your life. Common examples are;

  • father/mother/child;
  • conscious/subconscious/higher conscious;
  • Father/Son/Holy Ghost;
  • id/ego/super ego;
  • truth/beauty/good;
  • body/mind/soul; and so on.

You were born out of wonderment from the insatiable curiosity of God. Whatever the mind of God can conceive of is being played out in consciousness. This creates another trinity, the life we know here on earth.

It starts with God, Who then creates a Soul, Who then creates a character-self.

The purpose of this trinity is to create experience to know the truth of that experience from every possible perspective and dimension. Remember from previous Journal Pages your Soul is given an "I wonder..." thought of God's to explore. Your Soul begins to formulate ideas to explore this "I wonder..." thought from various perspectives - in other words, to create your experience.

Your Soul then assigns a character-self (or several) and designs a setting for the experience of the thought to take place. This setting and character-self becomes the idea for the movie of your life, so to speak. We are individuated on the most fantastic, gargantuan stage of unfathomable complexity in the mind of God. To us, it's just life.

You are in the movie of your life. Everything on the movie set is there for a reason; even the "extras". Take a look at all those close to you and your "setting".  All the supporting actors and extras are there to contribute to your movie!

It really gets fun to think about how you are also a supporting actor contributing to the movie of your friends and family. It can get really mind boggling.

The Movie of Your Life

So how does this relate to the trinity of who you really are?

Your life here on earth is known through your character-self - the identity of the person you are in this life. Surprise! Your character-self is yet another trinity! To comprehend this let's continue with the analogy of a movie.  The three primary aspects we will talk about are the producer of the movie, the audience watching it and the main actor playing the part.

This is actually a very strong similarity of the trinity of your character-self. You are the producer, audience and actor of the movie of your life and you are playing all three roles simultaneously!

Each of these roles is very distinct and different in approach. Since these roles are truly your life, you will easily relate to them once you understand their differences.

As my Guidance explained the differences to me I began to see how varying modalities and disciplines like meditation, positive thinking and therapy worked in conjunction with the roles we play. Gradually everything began to fall together like pieces of a puzzle and I recognized how to work with the trinity of who we truly are.

The Three Roles

Take a moment to imagine yourself as the producer of your life movie.  What are you trying to portray? What idea are you trying to get across? What is the purpose of your film?

Take a moment to imagine yourself as the audience watching your life. What meaning did you come away with? How did you like the show? Was it emotionally connecting, intriguing or just plain boring? What would you like to see more of?

Take a moment to imagine yourself as the main actor in your movie. How do you feel when you read the lines of your script? Can you bring to the screen the emotion and action the producer intends? Can you make it feel so real you forget it's a movie?

These are the three roles you play simultaneously and soon you will learn how to converse with each role and recognize which modality is appropriate. For now, have fun imagining your life as a movie.

Bring the popcorn and enjoy the show!
